Watch February 7, 2001 When Channel
4 did a two-minute story last night on the Protection of Marriage Act,
it gave 8 seconds to the proponent of the bill, Bryan Rudnick, and the
rest of the time to homosexual activists. In his
eight seconds, Rudnick pointed out that marriage has existed for thousands
of years for the protection of children. The segment
started with a picture of a couple having a ceremony in Vermont with
these words from the Channel 4 reporter: “When this gay Massachusetts couple made history by saying ‘I do’ under Vermont’s new Civil Union law, homosexuals everywhere hoped it would be the dawn of a new era and other states would soon follow with civil marriage rights for same sex couples.” It followed
with statements from homosexual activists and continued with this from
the reporter: “They were
denouncing a bill filed in the Massachusetts legislature defining a
marriage as a union between a man and a woman as the most anti-gay family
bill ever introduced on Beacon Hill.” The camera
then panned to Rudnick walking in the Statehouse with these words superimposed: “Twenty-three-year-old
Bryan Rudnick is the Executive Director of Mass Citizens Alliance, the
group working with House and Senate leaders to get the bill passed.”
The eight-second quote from Rudnick was then superimposed as he was
shown walking. “The union
between a man and woman is what benefits the child. It has nothing to
do with sexual preference. It has to do with promoting marriage as an
institution which has been done for thousands of years.” There was
no explanation as to why the age of Rudnick was announced, although
it is obvious that it was an attempt to diminish him. The Channel 4 program then flashed to a few ministers who had held a press conference to announce their opposition to the bill. The segment ended with these words, “But these religious leaders disagree, which is why the group will be celebrating national Freedom to Marry Day on February 12 so that our image of marriage will include scenes like this,” and footage of homosexual men embracing was shown.
