What Was Original Caption January 19, 2001 As readers of the Boston Globe stared at the picture of President Clinton on its front page this morning, many wondered what the original caption was for the “A.P. File Photo” that the paper used. Was it: “President Clinton stares at pornographic Internet site just recommended to him by his spiritual advisor, Rev. Jesse Jackson.”? Many people believe that had to be the original caption. But the Globe rewrote the caption to read, “The Clinton era was about contention and contentment, but mostly it was about contradictions.” The story was another attempt by the newspaper to impose its political feelings upon a sleepy readership with a large editorial on its front page disguised as a news story. The headline for the story was, “End of an era.” The majority of people hope that at least the headline is true. A man who received only 43% of the vote in 1992 was elected President and then was defeated in 1996 by the majority of the men and elected only by the women of the country even though he demonstrated many times that he holds all women in contempt and sees them only as sex objects. As this ultimate hero of the ‘60s generation passes into history, many hope that it is a final end to the 1960s and the ruined generation that passed through it.
