Fatherhood Advocacy Group Files Four Bills

Back to the Beacon Hill Beat

January 19, 2001
By Curt Lovelace

“Fathers and Families,” a group advocating on behalf of divorced fathers and their children, has filed four bills in the House and Senate. Each of the bills is sponsored by Senator Edward “Chip” Clancy (D-Lynn) and Rep. Arthur Broadhurst (D-Methuen).

Clancy, a long-time supporter of equal rights for fathers, told the Beacon Hill Beat that he signed on to this "common sense legislation seeking an environment more conducive to arrearage payments, the tightening of procedures and rules so that equity and the interest of all those involved are adhered to, and last, that the interest and well-being of the children and their rearing is paramount.”

The bills, which have not yet received numbers, are as follows.

An Act To Guarantee Evidentiary And Procedural Protection.

An Act To Preserve The Best Interest Of Children.

An Act To Assure Non-Discrimination In Legal Services For The Indigent.

An Act To Prevent Child Support Arrearages.

Fathers and Families can be reached at 617-357-4832. Sen. Clancy’s number is 617-722-1350 and Rep. Broadhurst’s number is 617-722-2040.
