Newton
Mayor Threatens Free Speech
The mayor of Newton,
David Cohen, stated last month that he would fight with those who disagree
with him “until their voices are no longer heard.”
He made
the statement at a tribute to Martin Luther King at a city-sponsored
event at Temple Emmanuel which 300 people attended. He said, “Groups
have arisen in Newton that attack and interfere with the practice of
human rights in our city. We will stand up to them until their voices
are no longer heard,” according to the Newton Tab. Some residents who
disagree with his views questioned who he is talking about. (see related
story)
Montana
is Furious About Pedophile/Cannibal from Mass.
The folks in Great Falls, Montana, are outraged that Massachusetts
dumped the pedophile/cannibal, Nathaniel Bar-Jonah, in their city, according
to the Boston Globe. A Massachusetts judge allowed the criminal to leave
the state to go to Montana after he had molested at least three children
near his hometown of Dudley and served 12 years at the Massachusetts
Treatment Center for the Sexually Dangerous. He is accused of kidnapping,
molesting, butchering and eating the remains of at least one young boy
in Great Falls.
Judge
Helps Litigant Outside of Courtroom
Judge Anne Geoffrion
was seen in the common area of the Berkshire Division Hall of Justice
last month helping a woman litigant fill out her Financial Statement
for use in Geoffrion’s family court. The judge apparently forgot that
she is supposed to be impartial.
Former
Dean at Middlesex Community Sues College
A former academic dean at Middlesex Community College, Bryan
O’Neil, has sued the college for firing him. He told the Globe that
the mostly female administration forced him out because he is a man
and openly religious.
Lexington’s
Battle Not Decided
Despite what the press says, the battle in the courts over
the banishment of the Crèche from the Battle Green in Lexington is far
from over. The U.S. Court of Appeals in Boston has recommended that
a trial be completed in advance of the 2001 Christmas season. It did
let stand a lower court decision not to issue an extraordinary Temporary
Restraining Order, which would have required the town to allow the nativity
scene last year without a trial being held.
But the
fight has not even started, says Atty. Chester Darling of Citizens for
the Preservation of Civil Rights. He said that his group is determined
to continue to litigate this case over the upcoming months to ensure
that the people of Lexington will not be denied their Crèche again next
Christmas. The attorney’s group is funded only by tax-deductible donations.
They can be reached for more information at 617-536-1776.
Boston
Bar Dances its Way to $700,000 for ‘Poor’
The Boston Bar Association has announced that it danced its way with
the glitterati at the Westin Copley Place last fall to a record $700,000
for its favorite “politically correct” poverty lawyers to help the “poor.”
It has been estimated that less than 1% of these rich corporate lawyers
have ever seen the inside of a courtroom or known a poor person. The
leaders of this year’s event were from FleetBoston Financial Corporation
and Fidelity Investments.
Boston
Globe Warns Bar President
A warning was given to the President of the Massachusetts
Bar Association by the Boston Globe last month in the form of a front
page story that said he, Edward P. Ryan, had “managed to irritate, infuriate,
or exasperate members of all three branches of state government: executive,
legislative, and judicial.” But in the manner of all hatchet stories
by the Globe, it didn’t mention even one person it had talked to who
was “irritated,” “infuriated,” or “exasperated.” The speculation was
that Ryan has irritated some of the staff at the MBA who are good friends
with the Globe staff. Those at the MBA have been shaken out of the doldrums
by the dynamic lawyer who has taken charge. One of the top candidates
for the culprit was the Association’s press director, Bill Litant, who
was mentioned in the story. Everyone is agreed that the Globe does not
like what this new president is doing. The page one headline was, “A
maverick in charge.” Ryan is a solo, trial lawyer from Fitchburg who
is used to honest, hard work.
Massachusetts
Senators Endorse “C__t Coloring Book?”
The Senators from
Massachusetts opposed John Ashcroft’s nomination last month because
he is “out of the mainstream” and has done things such as oppose the
nomination of James Hormel as Ambassador to Luxembourg. But Senators
were given a copy of the “C__t Coloring Book” for children which is
part of the James Hormel Gay and Lesbian Reading Center at the San Francisco
Public Library. It contains pages of drawings of female genitalia for
children to color. Is that what our Senators call “mainstream?”
Newburyport
Mayor Officially Eliminates Free Speech
The mayor of Newburyport eliminated Free Speech last month.
She said,
“Just because you allow people to speak on public property doesn’t mean
that they can say what they want.”
She says
she consulted her city solicitor but lawyers were only shaking their
heads in disbelief. The town has been sued because it solicited residents
to buy $60 bricks for a walkway and then removed two of the bricks which
had inscriptions, “For All the Unborn Children” and “Jesus Loves You.”
The attorney
for the two women who had bought the bricks told the Daily News, “The
city doesn’t have to allow private individuals to put messages on bricks,
but since the government allowed the brick walkway to be used for private
expression, it can’t pick and choose.”
The woman
who bought the “unborn” brick told the newspaper, “I lost a baby in
the late part of my pregnancy. Because I came home from the hospital
with only a baby blanket, because my daughter wasn’t born alive, that’s
why my brick says ‘For All the Unborn Children.’ It was a closure for
our family that the brick was there.” She said that the removal was
due to somebody’s intolerance and a misinterpretation that her message
was political.
Is
Radical Feminism a Psychological Disorder?
Radical feminism is a psychological disorder caused by two
generations of unforgiveness in the maternal line, according to Dale
Leary. She says she is not talking about those who seek equal rights
under the law with equal opportunity and protection for all. She refers
to the “radical, anti-life, anti-family, deconstructionist, neo-Marxist
Radical Feminism that is rampant on campuses and the government bureaucracies.”
She says, “I believe that the founders of this movement and those who
are deeply committed to forwarding its ideology are seriously psychologically
troubled.”
Globe
Wants the “T” to Pay Extortion
The “T” was chided last month because it decided to spend
more than $1 million to fight a fraudulent discrimination suit rather
than settle the case for $600,000. It was attacked in a “news story”
by the Boston Globe even though the “T” feared that a payment might
encourage other unwarranted suits. “We think that if a frivolous case
like this gets settled, then it just opens up the floodgates,” said
the “T” chairman. But the Globe gave the strong impression in its news
story that it believes the woman had been discriminated against.
Homosexuals
Do Die Younger
Although the activists
in Massachusetts attack any statement that homosexuality is an unhealthy
lifestyle, an article in the International Journal of Epidemology cited
work by six researchers in Canada as follows: “In a major Canadian centre,
life expectancy at age 20 years for gay and bisexual men is 8 to 20
years less than for all men. If the same pattern of mortality were to
continue, we estimate that nearly half of gay and bisexual men currently
aged 20 years will not reach their 65th birthday. Under even the most
liberal assumptions, gay and bisexual men in this urban centre are now
experiencing a life expectancy similar to that experienced by all men
in Canada in the year 1871.”
Planned
Parenthood
Worried About New Poll
A new poll by Zogby
is causing concern at Planned Parenthood headquarters in Boston. It
shows that although a majority still describe themselves as “pro-choice,”
some 51% of those polled also agree that abortion “destroys a human
life and is manslaughter.” Only 35% disagreed with the statement.
Most
Liberal Towns in State
Which towns gave the lowest number of votes to moving the
state’s income tax back to 5% last fall? The town with the lowest approval
was Shutesbury with only 28% voting for it, according to the folks at
CLT. Other low votes were: Amherst 31%, Leverett 34%, Northampton 38%,
Cambridge 38%, Pelham 39%, Conway 40%, Somerville 42%, Boston 42%, Montague
43%, Cummington 43%, and Sunderland 44%.
Senate
Majority Leader Wants Businesses
to Pay for Domestic Violence
The state Senate Majority Leader, Linda Malconian, wants
the businesses of the state to pay for the costs of domestic violence.
“I will
also continue my efforts to help victims of domestic violence by working
to make them eligible for unemployment insurance if they leave their
job due to domestic violence. For many, the need to protect themselves
or their families necessitates that they leave work, the one place where
the batterer knows where to find them. For others, the need to address
the physical, psychological or legal effects of domestic violence interferes
with their ability to get new jobs. Once domestic violence has caused
someone to lose their job, the receipt of unemployment insurance is
crucial to their survival — without it, they lose the economic independence
necessary to leave their batterers.”
Not only
will this cause the unemployment taxes, which are paid only by businesses,
to rise but it will make it much more attractive for a woman to bring
false charges against her husband or boyfriend. The matter of false
charges is already a serious problem, according to many judges.
