Chairman Joyce Is Running for Congress

State Democratic Chairman Appears

August 2001

The committee hearing was mostly run by Sen. Brian Joyce who is running for Congress.

The Chairman of the Massachusetts Democratic Committee, Philip Johnson, testified at the hearing in favor of the bills, which caused one observer to say, “Wait until the majority of the citizens in the state, who oppose gay marriage, hear about this.”

It was during Joyce’s tenure as chair of the hearing when all the legislators/proponents of the bills got to speak. Opponents of the bills were allowed to speak only after Joyce left and Rep. Brian Dempsey was chairing the committee.

Joyce continuously got up to speak with his Congressional Campaign Manager and editorialized positively about the “long standing supporters of gay rights.” One observer says that you would have thought Cheryl Jacques, Liz Malia and other gays had promised him a victory in his Congressional race.

The room was overflowing with many homosexuals, some of whom even brought their children.
