Why ‘Pick’ On Dr. Pollack?

Towns Under Threat
Terrorized by ‘Tolerance’
August 2001
We’re not “picking” on Harvard
Medical School and its famous psychologist, Dr. William Pollack.
They’re attempting to revolutionize
American society by spreading the lies of radical feminists that
American boys (and their fathers) are all in deep psychological
trouble.
Dr. Pollack has become extremely
famous and wealthy by spreading that garbage.
We knew when we first wrote
about him in December that the boys at Belmont Hill School considered
his research to be a farce when it was done a few years back. But
we couldn’t tell that to our readers because those students were
concerned about getting into college this year. Also, they did not
want to hurt Belmont Hill in any way.
We see this happen all the
time. Many people in Massachusetts are terribly concerned about
our society. But they are hesitant to speak out because they understand
what will happen to them and their families if they do.
We were finally able to release
the full story last month. It has gotten publicity all across the
country since that time. And it will continue to grow.
But Harvard still has not
spoken out on the subject. The spokesmen for the school appear to
be backing away from Pollack and his book. (See story on page 3)
But that does not erase the blot on its name. They cannot be so
irresponsible as to promote this stuff and expect to retain their
reputation for honesty and integrity.
They know that Pollack, against
universally accepted scientific practice, has always refused to
reveal where his research was conducted or to allow any other academics
to examine the data behind the sweeping and alarming conclusions
he published in his best selling book, Real Boys, which made him
rich and famous at the time of the Columbine shootings.
The country was looking for
answers to the violence, but they got terrible misinformation from
Harvard and its star, Dr. Pollack.
People Are Wondering About Harvard
Prof. Howard Schwartz of Oakland
University says the new revelations that MassNews has told about
Pollack’s research confirm what he suspected already. “The only
question is how much of his interviews Pollack made up. I suspect
it was a lot,” Schwartz says.
“This information does nothing
to reduce my uneasiness about the standards he applies to his work.
His data were collected in a very questionable fashion from an extremely
non-representative sample of boys. It makes the head spin to think
that he has generalized his findings into a full blown diagnosis
of cultural crisis. It is becoming increasingly difficult to take
Dr. Pollack seriously.”
Or Harvard Medical School.
A professor of organizational
behavior, Professor Schwartz studies the psychodynamics of political
correctness and is publishing a new book on the subject. He sees
that Pollack’s underlying goal is “to provide a theoretical basis
for social engineering, for a certain kind of parenting – from a
feminist perspective.”
He says, “Pollack sees no
particular [positive] meaning in the role of the father. His images
of fathers are just about uniformly negative. The whole idea behind
the revolution in parenting that he is trying to bring about is
[the notion] that the traditional family is throwing boys into distress
by raising them to be like their fathers rather than like women.”
If the radical feminists and
their friends like Dr. Pollack wish to change our society with their
new vision, they should attempt to do so. We welcome their thoughts.
But they should not do so
by secret research that apparently does not exist.
Harvard Medical School owes
the entire world an explanation. They can run but they cannot hide
on this one.
