Opposition Mounts to Cellucci As Ambassador
Fathers Urge Rejection of Cellucci for Ambassador

March 6, 2001

The Fatherhood Coalition has joined the thirteen other Massachusetts organizations urging the rejection of Gov. Cellucci as Ambassador to Canada.

In a letter to Sen. Jesse Helms, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, the group says, “The anti-father, anti-family climate in Massachusetts government is so prevalent and firmly entrenched that it sometimes seems like nothing sort of a revolution will reverse the damage done here by the Weld/Cellucci administrations.“

It noted in a press release that it sent a similar letter to Sen. Helms when Gov. Weld was rejected by the Senator for appointment to Mexico.

Full Text of the Letter
Dear Senator Helms:

We urge you to reconsider the pending appointment of Massachusetts Governor Paul Cellucci as ambassador to Canada, and not reward him with any position in the new administration. I hope the irony of our action is not lost on you. Indeed, we would like nothing better than to see Paul Cellucci out of Massachusetts – and, even better, out of the country — but we realize that the greater good would be served if politicians like Paul Cellucci realize that there is a cost to pandering to the politically correct, socially destructive elements that threaten the moral foundation of our great nation.

Presently in Massachusetts, thanks in large part to the leadership of Paul Cellucci, divorced fathers who want nothing more than to have a continuing relationship with the children that they raised and loved, are stripped of their parental rights with impunity -- and often criminalized in the process. Governor Cellucci inherited his political base and strategies from his predecessor, William Weld. To win election in a state where the Republican party is in danger of becoming a third party, fiscal conservatism was balanced with the outright selling of social policy to the very worst elements of socio-political advocacy: radical victim-feminism and a homosexual community that actually encourages and instructs gay sex in the public schools.

The anti-father, anti-family climate in Massachusetts government is so prevalent and firmly entrenched that it sometimes seems like nothing sort of a revolution will reverse the damage done here by the Weld/Cellucci administrations.

Through the three-pronged attack of patently unconstitutional so-called "abuse prevention" laws, usurious so-called "child support" guidelines that take up to 40% of the father's gross pay, and the inherent maternal bias in custody judgments, fathers are lucky to escape the divorce process with a roof over their head and without a jail sentence. The mistreatment and outright persecution of fathers in our state's courts is so severe that suicide is proving to be a rational decision for more and more of these men.

Sincerely,
Mark Charalambous,
The Fatherhood Coalition
