Homosexual Political Influence Growing in Massachusetts
Second-generation is open about its homosexuality

Homosexuals made significant advances in this year's primary elections, reports Bay Windows, a weekly newspaper for homosexuals.

One example is Jarrett Barrios, a homosexual Cambridge activist who won almost 50% of the primary vote for state representative in the 28th Middlesex district.  Barrios is expected to win the heavily Democratic district and become the first homosexual man to be elected to the State House of Representatives.

State Representative Liz Malia (D-Jamaica Plain), a lesbian, told Bay Windows, "I'm ecstatic not just because Jarrett is a gay Latino, but because he is a progressive Democrat who is smart, hard-working, and has a history in the community."

Michael Duffy, who won the Republican primary for state auditor (unopposed), is another member of this new wave of openly homosexual politicians, following the generation who revealed their homosexuality only after being elected.

Marjorie Clapprood, who appealed for votes on the basis of gender, thanked homosexual groups for their support in her race to win the Democratic nomination for the eighth congressional district.  Susan Tracy was the only lesbian in that race, but not all homosexual groups came out for her.

Homosexual political activists took credit for helping several of their favored candidates win state representative primaries, and also for putting Scott Harshbarger at the top of the Democratic ticket.  They will now push heavily for Harshbarger, being angry at Acting Governor Paul Cellucci's veto of a domestic partner bill for the City of Boston.  Homosexuals are unhappy with Cellucci even though he continues to support "gay marriage" and has done a great deal to woo the homosexual lobby -- including quadrupling funding for the Governor's Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth.

The Massachusetts Lesbian and Gay Political Alliance's Sean Cahill is quoted as saying, "Harshbarger is someone we can rely on who will not waver."
