Former
GOP Officials Abandon Party
Boston City Committee President and former GOP Deputy Director Join Libertarian Party Massachusetts News September 7--As the Libertarian Party continues its growth, many new members are switching their affiliation from more established parties. Long-time GOP activist and Republican City Committee President Bradford White has changed his party affiliation from Republican to Libertarian. "The other two major parties are a blur," said White. "Libertarianism is more than a political party, it is a definable philosophy that you can live by," he added. Local Libertarian activists greeted White's changeover with enthusiasm. White has promised to share over 20 years of experience with political activism to help Libertarians field more candidates and win more races. But White isn't the only top GOP activist to have crossed the line in recent months. Bob O'Keefe, former GOP Deputy Director, also joined the Libertarian Party. He has worked for more than two months with Libertarian candidate Doug Krick's campaign for State Representative from the 14th Suffolk district (Hyde Park, Roslindale, and Readville). "I have come to realize after ten years in politics," said O'Keefe, "that I have always been more Libertarian than Republican. Now I'm working with a party where I truly belong, both at the state and national levels." O'Keefe served as Massachusetts GOP Deputy Director for more than four years. He was the founding chairman of the Greater Boston Young Republicans, and has served on a variety of Republican committees over the last ten years. He has also been active in the campaigns of a number of Republican candidates. According to Elias Israel, Chairman of the Massachusetts Libertarian Party, "This is only the beginning. With new and old Libertarians alike, we're building a party that challenges the entrenched big government establishment and we're doing it the old-fashioned way. We're energizing activists, organizing local committees, and running candidates for office." The Libertarian Party is the third largest and fastest growing political
party in Massachusetts and in the US. The Libertarian Party advocates reducing
the size and scope of government, and stands for personal liberty and personal
responsibility on all issues. Libertarian officals hold more than 200 positions
nationwide and 12 positions in Massachusetts.
