DSS Can Be Reformed

Every time we hear about more children being tortured while in the clutches of DSS, someone will say, "Oh, it’s always been that way." (Notice that we have not put any quote marks around the word "tortured.")

But it does not need to continue that way. We can change it.

It’s good that we have been concerned about a little Cuban boy, but how about the children in Massachusetts who are being torn from both of their parents – kicking and screaming – on a regular basis?

Why do we hide our faces? Must Charles Dickens return to life and write a novel about how much worse children are treated in Massachusetts than they were in olde England?

Everyone will agree with most of Steps 1 through 6 in the "Children’s Bill of Rights" found on page 3. So let’s do them.

The place to start is with a truly independent Inspector General. However, even if we are able to get to that point, the power structure will try to keep their control by having the IG report directly to them. We cannot allow that. He should not report to the Attorney General, the Governor and certainly not to the DSS Commissioner or the effort will have been in vain. This person must be totally independent and report only to the Board which hired him, which raises the question of who will appoint the Board? We will have to think long and hard about that one. And once an IG is in place, like everything else in a democracy it will take constant vigilance on our part.

The terrible story about what DSS is doing to the Crowley family as reported on our front page this month is not unique. There are other cases which are even worse. This mother used very poor judgment in allowing this man into her home. But many mothers are making this foolish mistake and then becoming angry when the man they took in becomes violent. They don’t seem to realize that they were very foolish.

But in the Crowley case the DSS was much worse than the mother because they knew this man had a record as a child molester and they did nothing but watch these children being tortured. And the molester is now living with yet another family that is also under DSS supervision. But they do nothing.

Nobody questions that DSS is totally out-of-control. How can we as a society live with this problem? Let’s reform this system.

Favoring Mothers Is Not ‘Hate’

As soon as we begin to point out that "gay marriage" and "domestic partnerships" could destabilize traditional marriage as the Vermont Supreme Court said in its opinion a few months ago, the establishment in Massachusetts is going to scream, "Hate!"

The only reason they will do so is because we will have the facts and the truth on our side and they will have no response. It’s kind of like a soccer game where they can’t move the ball as well as the other team so they attack the players by kicking them – particularly from the rear.

Most of the homosexuals will not do this, but the ultra-liberal establishment in Massachusetts, including the homosexual activists, will jump to label anyone who disagrees with them as a "hater."

This will change when the establishment realizes that in reality they are a very small minority. All of the polls show that Massachusetts residents are traditional in their values and are not haters.

The poll which this newspaper conducted last fall showed that 92% of Massachusetts residents replied that teenagers should not be encouraged to be sexually active. And yet that is exactly what the schools and libraries in Massachusetts are doing. Even the 47% of the poll who said they were a liberal were against encouraging sexual activity by a huge majority of 91%.

And yet the Boston Herald is the only one which reported that story. The media does not want you to know anything that disagrees with their worldview.

Loss of Control In Libraries Indicates Nihilism

Most of us blink and giggle when we’re asked important questions about our worldview. This is what Prof. Thomas Hibbs of Boston College has written in his new book which we reviewed in this issue. He says that the popular culture is endowing our country with a nihilist view of the world.

One of the signs that this problem is present is that we no longer have the desire to rule ourselves. Hibbs told our reporter, "Of course, if you just get big government out of the way, there is no guarantee that people will start governing themselves. It is an art and it takes generations. We have very little appetite for that civic participation."

What we see happening in our libraries is an excellent example of this. It is no longer local people who are running our libraries even when they have the power to do so.

When a group of local people complained to the Easthampton library about its policy of lending R-videos to anyone including children, one of the library incorporators told the parents that if they don’t like it, they should go to the American Library Association in Chicago.

The American Library Association in Chicago?

If this country ever loses its freedom, that remark will tell it all. Our libraries are no longer locally run. They’re run like a McDonald’s franchise from headquarters.

‘Out of Control’ Judges in Massachusetts

No one can disagree that the "poverty lawyers" in this state have an ultra-left point of view. They have complete and total disdain for everyone who  disagrees with them.

"That’s the way it should be. A lawyer is supposed to represent his clients."

That’s absolutely true. But these lawyers are not just representing their clients. Their main mission is to change our government into their vision. They do not have the right to do that when they are being paid by the government. If so, then let the non-ultra-leftists have their own "poverty lawyers" also.

How can the Supreme Judicial Court be participating in this threat to our form of government? These lawyers are obviously under their control and are following their worldview. Do they not know about the "separation of powers?"

How can the SJC and the "poverty lawyers" team up to give unemployment benefits to an unmarried woman who left her job to follow her boyfriend? There is nothing in the law about this. Or how can the courts be funding a group which sets our tax policy?

We all worry about the elderly and yet after a 90-year-old woman is raped in public housing, they fight a law to remove drug abusers and dangerous mental patients from housing for the elderly. This bill wasn’t filed by a rightwing kook but by Congressman Chester Atkins.

Does the SJC have any problems sleeping when they are promoting this type of lunacy which also happens to be an unconstitutional seizure of power by them?

When they’re into this type of action, it’s not surprising that the stealing of money from the clients of every lawyer in the state, which is known as IOLTA, seems insignificant to them.

The Disgrace of Brandeis University

Imagine an America where people are not allowed to hold a forum and discuss their thoughts without thugs threatening their lives.

This is what happens – on a routine basis – at places like Brandeis University where a talk by Charlton Heston drew over 1000 thugs to threaten his life and that of anyone to went to hear his speech.

In America?

Oh, it’s okay because Heston’s thoughts disagree with the thugs who have seized control of the University. Its president led the way by attempting to forbid Heston from even daring to show. He said he was worried about security and he harassed those students who dared to defy the status quo by inviting Heston to speak. He charged them an inordinate amount of money for "security" but then allowed a mob scene to take place.

It’s ironic that Louis Brandeis was famous for his desire for "the freedom to express ideas." If Louis Brandeis were alive today, he would ask that his name be stricken from this institution.
