"Gay
Marriage" Supported by Natick/Sherborn/Millis Candidates
Candidates tell homosexual newspaper they support gay nuptials By J. Edward Pawlick
April 23 -- Both of the Democratic candidates for state representative from Natick/Sherborn/Millis support gay marriage in Massachusetts. That’s what they told Bay Windows, the homosexual newspaper in Boston. They back “all the pro-gay legislation now pending in the Legislature,” reported the paper. A special primary election will be held April 27 to pick the candidates who will vie for the seat being vacated by Douglas Stoddard, who has been appointed a judge. One candidate, John Moran, told the homosexual paper he would support “gay marriage” because he believes the state “has no business getting involved with that area.” He would also support bills now pending that would provide health and other benefits to the homosexual partners of both state and municipal employees. However, the other candidate, David Linsky, told the newspaper he would be “the most reflective of the particular interests of gays and lesbians ...” He also said he would support any of the domestic partner bills now before the legislature--and gay marriage. Both men said they were unhappy with the article by Massachusetts News Publisher J. Edward Pawlick, which questioned whether Massachusetts’ public schools are doing a disservice to young people by assuming that a school, a government institution, can make highly personal decisions, such as those related to sexuality. For instance, the article raised the question of whether a public school can (or should) decide whether a teenager is homosexual in light of the now-accepted premise that there is no “gay gene” and that homosexuals can, and do, change. Linsky said he had read portions of Pawlick's article and found them to be “sad and offensive ... very misinformed and disturbing.” Moran said he hadn’t read the article. But, nonetheless, he said: “It was a gay-bashing type of literature, from what I've heard. [The mailings] were very upsetting to me, and I thought they were inappropriate and it's something I could not condone.” The two Republican candidates--John Lambert and Kenneth Hoyt of Natick---and the Independent candidate--Jerry Pierce of Natick--were not available or did not respond to phone calls from Bay Windows. |
