Pro-Life Activist?...Not Really

Massachusetts News
By Curt Lovelace

January 5--Actually, Lu Haner (shown in photo), a member of Boston ResourceAnimal Rights Activists Picket in Front of the State House for Animals, Vegetarianism and the Environment was protesting a recently passed bill which would allow the use of certain traps to deal with the recent explosion in the beaver population in the Commonwealth. The wording of her sign being somewhat reminiscent of signs seen in pro-life rallies, Massachusetts News asked the seemingly obvious question:

"How do you feel about abortion?"

Ms. Haner’s reply was quick and forceful: "We’re not here about abortion. We’re here for animals." Asked whether it didn’t seem an obvious question, given the wording of her sign, Haner reiterated, "We’re not here to talk about that."

Being somewhat persistent, as Massachusetts News can be, we were finally told, "Some of those anti-abortion people ask me the same question. I ask them if they care about children. If they do, they should be out doing something about it. Talk’s cheap." Yes, talk can be cheap, but it seems that Ms. Haner answered our question. The life of an animal, to some, is more important than human babies.
