Boston Globe Reporter Sacha Pfeiffer Made It Clear In Her “News” Story Yesterday that She Doesn’t Want Tom Reilly for Governor
Boston Globe Reporter Sacha Pfeiffer made it clear yesterday that she doesn’t like Tom Reilly for Governor, although she was supposedly writing an article about the dangers of lead paint.
She wrote in her first sentence that a pact between the manufacturers of paint and state prosecutors is “often ignored” by paint stores (who are not covered under the pact) and that is largely the fault of Reilly.
Sacha said in the second paragraph: “Spearheaded by Attorney General Thomas F. Reilly, the voluntary agreement signed in 2003 is widely trumpeted by paint makers and state regulators across the country as a major step in reducing the number of children poisoned.”
Sacha’s problem is that, according to her own story, it’s true that the 2003 agreement has been a “major step” in reducing lead paint poisoning.
Nevertheless, she continued on her rant against Reilly, saying in the next sentence: “At the time, Reilly heralded it as giving ‘real protection to families and consumers from the risks associated with home renovation projects,’ and his office and his gubernatorial campaign offer it as proof that he aggressively promotes lead cleanup and lead poisoning prevention.”
Remember, we’re still in paragraph two of this seventeen paragraph news story and Sacha has already made everyone aware that Reilly is 1) a candidate for Governor and 2) is not to be trusted.

Some other glitches that Sacha could not handle:

          ● In paragraph 2 she quotes a friend of the Globe who runs a consumer group in Maine and falsely says that the manufacturers are not complying with the agreement, even though Sacha’s own story shows they are.
          ● In paragraph 5, Sacha complains that brochures about the dangers of lead paint are often not available at retail stores, even though Sacha knows that paint stores are not covered by the agreement.
          ● Sacha got really confused in paragraph 15 where she totally changed the subject with the following unrelated stuff: “Reilly has come under fire from advocates working to prevent childhood lead poisoning who say he rejected their request to file a lawsuit aimed at forcing the paint industry to fund lead paint cleanup nationwide, although Reilly's aides say he has not ruled out such litigation. Earlier this year, Rhode Island won a first-ever jury verdict requiring Sherwin-Williams Co. and two other paint makers to rid more than 300,000 Ocean State homes of lead contamination.”
But getting manufacturers to pay for removal of lead paint that happened years ago has nothing to do with the story that Sacha started to tell.
But when you’re a Globe reporter in the employ of Pinch Sulzberger, you’re not looking for truth, only to smear someone you want to damage.
