Speaker DiMasi On Junket Tour While State Workers Get Laid Off

Speaker Sal DiMasi is currently on a tax-payer funded trip to Nashville and Graceland. It includes a private concert by LeAnn Rimes, tours of Graceland, the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Jack Daniels Distillery. The Republican candidate vying for his seat, Kenneth Procaccianti, has questioned whether the scheduled trip was the reason why DiMasi refused to reconvene a special session after July 31.
It is particularly troubling to observers that many individuals are going to be laid off because of DiMasi’s neglect of the bond bill and his apparent refusal to save their jobs because of this junket.
Numerous citizen groups and Lt. Governor Kerry Healey have asked DiMasi and Senate President Robert Travaglini to re-open the legislature beyond DiMasi's July 31 recess date so that it can pass the necessary bond bill, and other legislation. DiMasi finally has agreed to reconvene, but not until September.
