Kennedy Says Lamont Victory a “Model for Democracy”
Sen. Ted Kennedy, in an Op-Ed published in the Hartford Courant yesterday, said that the victory of Ned Lamont over Sen. Joseph Lieberman represented a “model for democracy” everywhere. He also took Vice President Dick Cheney to task for saying the Lamont victory was encouraging to “the al-Qaida types" who want to "break the will of the American people in terms of our ability to stay in the fight and complete the task".
Lamont advocates the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, even without a stable government in place.
Critics have noted that Lamont’s narrow victory was orchestrated and financed by George Soros, the foreign born industrialist who has committed hundreds of millions to defeating conservatives. Lamont’s supporters represent some of the most extreme liberals in the Democratic party- namely Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and Rep. Maxine Waters.
Just days after Lieberman’s loss to Lamont in the primary, polls have indicated that Lieberman would beat Lamont in the general election, should he choose to run as an Independent (46%-41%).
