Schumer Continues Unanswered Attacks Against All Republicans
Sen.
Charles Schumer said yesterday that the Connecticut Primary was “a
referendum on the president more than anything else. The results bode
well for Democratic victories in November and our efforts to take
the country in a new direction.''
Schumer continued his unanswered attacks
against all Republicans, including President Bush, as he seeks national
prominence for his expected successes in electing many Democrats to
Congress this fall.
Many observers say he will be correct
if the Republicans don’t appoint someone like Brit Hume immediately
to respond directly and challenge Schumer.
The Senator’s counterpart in the Republican
Party, Elizabeth Dole had raised only one-half the amount that Schumer
had as of last month, $19.9 million to over $37.7 million.
The New York Times said that if the President
is unable to close that gap, it will force the RNC to give money to
embattled GOP Senators, which will “create tensions with House Republicans
who want that money used to help them.”
Dole brushed-off the
comparisons with Schumer and told the Times: “I didn’t take this job
to prove anything. This is not a P.R. campaign for me. This is not
some kind of contest between Chuck Schumer and Elizabeth Dole.”
She suggested that
Schumer was mostly concerned with advancing his career, but many Republicans
wished that was also her goal. Many are concerned about her poor job.
Fox News Getting Desperate
As Fox News
watches the ineptness of its employee, Tony Snow, who is acting as
spokesman for President Bush, the company executives in New
York are concerned that Snow not
be dismissed from his post in the Oval Office.
Fox covets that access to the Oval Office,
as would any large corporation, particularly one with annual revenues
over $27 billion.
Last night, while they had Chris Wallace
doing an excellent job of hosting the Brit Hume show, the executives
put up many clips of Snow’s News Conference when he was talking about
Israel.
(None of the hosts, such as Chris Wallace last night choose much of
what appears on the show. Those decisions are made by producers in
New York City.)
They were not subtle. It was an obvious
attempt to make their employee look Presidential.
If they were really smart they would
push for a Response person for the President. This would take most
of the pressure off Snow and have someone else answering Senator Schumer.
