TONY SNOW DEMONSTRATES CALLOUS DISREGARD FOR TWO AMERICAN
SOLDIERS CAPTURED BY ENEMY
In
the first few seconds of his highly publicized appearance on Fox News
Sunday yesterday, Tony Snow demonstrated callous disregard for the
two American soldiers apparently captured by the enemy.
Inasmuch as Snow used to host Fox News Sunday, he was beaming
from ear-to-ear after seeing some of his old friends at the television
studio. He immediately startled the host, Chris Wallace who had welcomed
him warmly, when Snow was asked the first question:
Wallace: What do you
say to the people who may be holding these soldiers?
Snow:
Give them back.
No one expected such a flip, childish
response.
Chris Wallace responded
quickly and managed to get Snow into a serious discussion. But Snow
again demonstrated his immaturity almost immediately. He insisted
on showing some pictures of himself strapped into a helicopter with
body armor while touring Iraq with the President. It was as though
he had been a tourist on vacation and had some snapshots to show the
folks at home. He wasn’t going to be denied. He didn’t have photos
of anything in Iraq except for himself.
But
most Americans, particularly the families of the two missing soldiers
are not interested in seeing Tony Snow touring Iraq like any other
tourist and saying that it is a “fun White House to work in.”
Now that Carl Rove
is back in commission, Rove will be deciding the President’s strategy,
not Tony Snow.
Tony Snow Assumes No Responsibility for Protecting
President from the ‘Bush Bashers’
If Snow stayed around yesterday after
his starring role, he would have heard two Democrats bashing the President.
They were John Podesta and Simon Rosenberg.
“Their [Pres. Bush’s]
course isn’t working,” said Simon Rosenberg, the activist who founded
the Democratic Leadership Council and who was largely responsible
for the election of Bill Clinton in 1992.
“We’re losing the
War on Terrorism,” said John Podesta, former Chief of Staff to Bill
Clinton.
During the long,
10-minute interview, Snow expressed no interest in protecting President
Bush from his foes.
Instead Snow was acting like his predecessor, Scott
McClellan.
One of the Democrats
made the outrageous statement
that the Republicans can’t “conduct the war on public opinion polls.”
They have to fight the war on principle and not look at the polls.
If he were not trying
to protect Snow, Chris Wallace would have asked the obvious question:
What has changed since you replaced
Scott McClellan?
It’s obvious that the answer is that
nothing has changed: McClellan used to repeat what the President says.
Now, Tony Snow repeats what the President says.
The President has
to be above the fray. That is Tony Snow’s job, to answer the two people
who came after the President yesterday. The show should have been
flipped. The two Democrats should have started the show and Tony Snow
should have told what he would do to answer them and protect the President.
But Chris Wallace is a newsman, not an advocate, that is supposedly
Snow’s job.
Some people
are wondering about the medication that Snow is receiving as a result
of his cancer. Is it possible that it contains hormones which are
affecting the competence of Snow in this highly competitive job of
protecting President Bush?
