Tony Snow Has Always Been a Liberal Republican Who Laughed
at President Reagan and Is Now Doing the Same to President Bush
During the last three years of
George H. W. Bush’s liberal Presidency, Tony Snow was in the
top echelon at the White House (1991-1993) as Chief Speechwriter
and Assistant for Media Affairs.
Most conservatives
were disgusted with the elder Bush. That’s why they had chosen
Ronald Reagan in the 1980 primary and why they didn’t have enthusiasm
for the elder Bush in 1992. As a result, Bill Clinton took the
Presidency by default.
It all
happened because Reagan took some bad political advice in 1980
and made the serious mistake of naming George H. W. Bush as
his Vice President in order to “balance” the ticket. The elder
Bush proceeded to bring into the White House many of his liberal
friends, such as James Baker. He brought them in in order to
watch and control President Reagan. Jim Baker’s first job was
as Reagan’s Chief of Staff.
During the
1980 Primary, Bush had referred to Reagan’s supply-side economics
(which resulted in a huge boost to the economy, the same as
is happening today) as “voo-doo economics.” After Reagan left
office in 1988, Bush promised the voters a “kinder, gentler”
America,
as though Reagan had not been “kind” and “gentle.”
It is impossible
that Snow did not understand all this when he served in the
top levels of the Bush Presidency.
Tony has now
returned to the White House to do the same thing to George W.
Bush that he helped do to Ronald Reagan. If that is confusing
to you, just consider that George W. Bush is a conservative,
but his father was not nor is Tony Snow.
Snow’s Job Is to Protect the President
Tony Snow is supposed to answer
in an assertive manner the enemies of President Bush, but he takes special delight in doing that
to friends of the President and ignoring the worst enemies like
Sen. Chuck Schumer --- because Schumer will bite back.
For example,
Tony is constantly harassing the reporter for the acclaimed
WorldNetDaily, Les Kinsolving. If you doubt that, here is a
transcript of what occurred last Thursday when Kinsolving asked
an intelligent question at a press conference:
What
about Article in Rolling Stone Magazine by Robert Kennedy Jr.?
WND asked about the assertion of
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. in an article in Rolling Stone magazine
that very morning that the 2004 election was won by George Bush
only because the Republicans stole more than 350,000 votes in
Ohio, which would
have been enough to give John Kerry the election. This is a
transcript of that conversation with Snow:
"Robert
F. Kennedy Jr. has written an article in Rolling Stone which
revisits the Ohio
vote in 2004. Does the president believe Kennedy has raised
any new evidence of voter fraud?"
"No, what
I think he will do is let you, Lester, be his emissary from
Rolling Stone," quipped Snow before
moving to another reporter.
How Tony Snow Should Have Answered the Charge that Bush Stole the Presidency
in 2004
If Tony Snow was serious about
protecting the President, he would have replied in this manner.
If he had done so, he (Tony Snow) would have received some good
press in the daily newspaper that has by far the largest circulation
of any conservative publication in the country.
But it’s too
late now because Snow has already revealed his contempt for
WND and the conservatives who devour it every day.
This is what
the President’s spokesman should have said, “No.” That’s all
he should have said and then moved on.
It Would
Have Been a Mistake to Say More
He also could have said the following,
but with our limited knowledge, we believe that he was correct
in not doing so.
“Les, I’m glad
you raised that issue. I do not desire to say anything negative
about any of the families of John F. and Robert Kennedy, who
loved their country and served it well and courageously. But
the losses of both those husbands and fathers before their time
appear to have had a serious impact upon their families. We
are all sorry for that.
“We’re now
witnessing the recurring drug-addiction problems of Congressman
Patrick Kennedy who just checked himself back into a rehab center
after driving his car recklessly at the Capitol.
“Many of the
Kennedy children were scarred for life and turned to drugs.
We don’t know why they did, but the trauma of the deaths of
John F. and his brother, Robert, were undoubtedly a contributing
factor. We know that Robert was arrested in 1983 for heroin
possession and went into treatment for his addiction. A year
later, his younger brother, David Kennedy, died of an overdose
of cocaine.
“Robert has
been clean for twenty years and is now a respected environmental
lawyer, but he is also an angry man and is lashing out at those
who he believes are the enemies of his deceased father.”
Another
Question
This is how Snow retorted to this
question from the reporter at WorldNetDaily:
"The
Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that the grand jury investigation
of Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney for striking a U.S.
Capitol police officer went into its third month with experts
saying it should have been wrapped up in a matter of days. My
question, as this nation's chief law enforcer, does the president
disagree with the national president of the Fraternal Order
of Police, Chuck Canterbury, who said, right from the start,
this U.S.
attorney handled this case differently because McKinney
is a sitting congresswoman?"
Responded Snow:
"As I described to you, Lester, the president is not going
to assert command influence over ongoing investigations in Iraq.
He certainly is not going to sit around and second-guess a grand
jury in Georgia."
The reply by
Snow was obviously a wise-acre answer. This demeaned Snow beyond
his comprehension.
