Why Would Gov. Romney Fight the President if He Wishes to Become a National Figure?
If Gov. Romney wishes to become a national figure, why would he fight the President? That’s what many observers are wondering after watching George Bush yesterday.
Romney can become a national hero by following the leader of his Party, who believes he remained as President because he opposed gay marriage in 2004. The President yesterday announced his support of the federal Marriage Amendment to a lot of publicity.
And things are much better for traditional marriage now than they were last year. The newest CNN/USAToday/Gallup poll shows that 42% in 2005 thought that gay marriage should be recognized, but only 28% are saying that now. Last year, 48% supported a constitutional amendment in favor of traditional marriage and 46 opposed it.
This year 57% support it and only 37% are in opposition.
We have already given examples of Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson as role models of statesmen who have refused to allow the judiciary to dominate the country as the SJC is currently doing in Massachusetts. This is the time for a strong leader, they say, if Mitt Romney has that fortitude.
