Freedom Will Conquer Racism |
"We've learned across the state that when people hear our stories, they come our way," said Marc Solomon, campaign director of MassEquality. "They move towards marriage equality and not away from it." The spot on television flashes between six married same-sex couples from Massachusetts while a voiceover speaks of the challenges they've faced and the services they've provided to their communities. The goal is to sway the public and that of the legislators from allowing the amendment sponsored by VoteonMarriage.org from moving ahead. A vote will be held in the Legislature on July 12 as to whether the Amendment should go to the people in subsequent years. Four years ago, an amendment sponsored by Mass. Citizens for Marriage was derailed when the legislature illegally adjourned the Constitutional Convention without even voting on the amendment. It was difficult to get a majority of the legislators when no vote was taken. According to recent polls, over 75% of the citizens of Massachusetts believe that the definition of marriage ought to be decided by the people of the state, rather than unelected judges. They are looking for leadership from Governor Romney in that regard. |
