Samiyah Diaz May Unseat Diane Wilkerson in Mass. Senate
There’s a good chance that the 28-year-old “Republican” Samiyah Diaz might unseat the powerful Diane Wilkerson in the Mass. Senate this year. If Diaz succeeds in the primaries, she will appear as both the Republican and Democrat on the November ballot.
She has her supporters downloading a “Give Diaz Chance” ringtone, so that every time their phones ring, those in the area will hear her name as a senate candidate.
Diaz promises to be tough on crime, be conservative fiscally. She says it is hard work, not government hand-outs, that will solve poverty issues in her district. However, she is unabashedly liberal on issues like gay marriage and abortion. She fancies herself a “Bill Weld” Republican.
Sen. Wilkerson still has a chance of holding her seat against Diaz. She still has many powerful friends in her district and at the State House. A cursory glance at how the campaigns are unfolding thus far, however, would indicate that the embattled Democrat is going to be returning to private life come next year.
