Who
Will Be Appointed President’s Press Secretary Is Still Unclear
After
a reporter said last night that Tony Snow is undergoing medical tests
to determine whether his body could handle the stress of being the
President’s Press Secretary, Brit Hume responded that everyone
is rooting for Tony and it is expected that he will be appointed.
But that
colloquy did not prove anything. Even if it has already been agreed
that Hume will be appointed and Snow will stay at a less stressful
job with Fox, it would have to be announced in this manner.
The best
career choice for Tony at this point is to stay with Fox in some capacity.
If the tests show that he can handle the stress, he should immediately
take over Hume’s position at Fox. That could be a permanent
position instead of a burnout, two-year job with not much pay that
would leave Snow with nowhere to go in 2008.
Nobody
wants to make it appear as though Snow was rejected by the President
and this will take time to accomplish.
Although
we’ve been wrong in the past, we continue to hope and believe
that Hume will be given the position.
