Court Appearance of Serial Rapist: Calls Hearing “Total Joke”
To the Editor:
In
Response to "Only Election of Judges Will Save Us from the Likes
of Judge McCann Who Allowed a Serial Rapist of Children to “Walk”
(Read
Story)
We attended Wheeler's March
28th court appearance. It was a total joke.
The case was continued until April 21st. The judge (Judge John McCann)
allowed Mr. Wheeler to stay out of the court room because a camera
was there. The judge also allowed many things "off the record"
because of the camera. Nice that Mr. Wheeler has the judge looking
out for him. The prosecutor said that she would like to see the failure
to register charge stick because it could really come into play IF
" he victimizes another child" I say WHEN he victimizes
another child. ...How nice that our system will allow him to victimize
again. What ? seven victims wasn't enough?
The saga continues on April
21st, at Boston Municipal court, Courtroom 18 at 9:00 am.
Best,
Laurie Myers
Editor's Note:
Since we originally
ran the story, it has been revealed that the serial rapist had
violated probation at least 11 times. Technically, for any one
of those violations, he should have been made to return to prison
and finish his prison sentence. The man is a pedophile of the
worst type.
Judge McCann, however, refused
to send him back to jail. As indicated by the reader's letter,
the judge has far more sympathy for the rapist than the little
girls he repeatedly raped. Like the situation with Judge Maria
Lopez, and even SJC Chief Justice Margaret Marshall, this demonstrates
the need for some type of |

| accountability of judges in
the State of Massachusetts to the people. Elections for
judges would remedy the situation. If judges knew that such a
miscarriage of justice could cost them their jobs, they would
likely put a little more thought into such matters. |
