Men
“Just Want Power” Say Social Workers on Beacon Hill
Social workers lobbied the
Ways and Means Committee last week on a multitude of bills.
Among them, granting drivers licenses and in-state tuition
rates to illegal aliens, ratifying same-sex marriage in the legislature
and early parole for drug offenders.
“As
I go through the budget line by line, item by item, please know that
your concerns have fallen on very receptive ears,” House Ways and
Means chair Robert DeLeo (D-Winthrop) said to Carol Trust, executive
director of the state chapter for the National Association for Social
Workers.
The featured speaker for
the national social workers organization was Barbara Lee.
“Most men enter politics because they want power,” she declared. “But most women like [Washington’s US Senator]
Patty Murray become politicians because they want change.”
Rep. Deleo was apparently
unfazed by the sexist nature of Lee’s characterization.
