Welcome Peter Blute!
Although we will be writing more
about Peter Blute and his race against Ted Kennedy for the U.S. Senate,
we can't hold back our enthusiasm. Although Blute is truly a moderate
and would not excite many conservatives in other states, he will be
an excellent Senator from Massachusetts. We had not expected such a
strong person to be challenging Kennedy.

Bishops Get Together to Oppose Adoptions by Gays
The four Mass. bishops have joined
together in an effort to stop Catholic agencies from giving children
to gays, according to an article in the Boston Globe last week. The
plan, however, is opposed by Catholic Charities of Boston, which
was exposed by MassNews a few years ago when one of its counselors spent
his Saturdays volunteering at a Planned Parenthood facility to welcome
people to the abortion facility. The agency first denied the truth of
our story.
Only the Boston
diocese now allows adoptions by gays, according to the Globe. The Globe
says that the opposition to the proposal comes from Catholic Charities
of Boston which could lose $7 million/year if the change is approved
by the bishops.

Will Follow Story about Crash of SUVs that Killed Schoolboy
MassNews will follow
the story in the Worcester Telegram last week about a schoolboy who
was killed in an adjoining block when two SUVs collided at a 4-way stop
intersection adjacent to the school. If both these drivers "walk"
without jail-time, that would send the terrible message to drivers that
they will not be punished for such obscene behavior. Either one or both
had to be criminally negligent. It will be instructive what happens
in this case and how the District Attorney handles it.

Commuters
Made Serious Mistake on Turnpike Tolls
The taxpayers of Massachusetts
have made many serious mistakes in recent years, but the worst was to
think they could really get something for nothing. That's what Tip O'Neill
told us a few years back when he got the Big Dig money from Congress.
It won't cost us anything, we were told. What a bunch of baloney that
was.
The second mistake
was when commuters thought they could stop paying tolls on the Turnpike
because it was all "paid-for." So now we have our "free"
road but it doesn't look to be "free." Does anybody remember
the Turnpike during the blizzard of '78 when Route 128 came to a total
stop, but all the local roads were open as was the Turnpike? Mike Dukakis
donned his sweater and took to television to assure everyone that we
would all be safe, even those stuck on 128, because he would save us.
The western commuters
had an excellent road back then when Route 3 coming from Plymouth and
the Cape was a parking lot every day, as was the Tobin Bridge coming
from the north.
Hopefully, the taxpayers
will learn, but it looks like "free" health care for everyone
is going to be even worse if someone doesn't start thinking.
