Santorum Was Right, Perhaps More Than He Realizes
Sen. Santorum
linked Boston liberalism with pederasty, for which Santorum was excoriated
by the Boston liberals, very successfully so far. Given the timidity and
uncertainty of Santorum's reply, the exchange can hardly be said to have
risen to the level of debate so far.
Here is a very striking and
remarkable instance of the link: The Rev. Paul Shanley gave a public speech
in Boston in the seventies, in which he advocated pederasty. With what
consequences to him? There were none for about fifteen years.
The Boston Globe participated
in a cover up of Shanley's philosophical preferences corporately, as an
institution, that is to say several reporters and at least a couple of
adminstrators were aware of Shanley's speech and all did nothing to expose
him. Why did the Globe turn on Shanley after protecting him for fifteen
years? This is fascinating. Shanley, as a homosexual, was a sacred cow,
indeed the leading sacred cow of the moment. Shanley, as a weapon to discredit
and humilate the Catholic Church, had to bemade to walk the plank. But
the Boston Globe has its hands dirty too.
