Marshfield Rep Calls for Route 3 Improvements
During Tuesday’s Transportation
Committee hearing, Rep. Frank Hynes (D-Marshfield) asked his fellow lawmakers
to support road improvement legislation (H. 2208, 2209, 2211) to relieve
congestion on Route 3, the main artery to Cape Cod from Boston.
“The first would order the establishment
of high-occupancy vehicle lane, the second mandates a firm schedule for
widening the road between Weymouth and Plymouth, and the third allows
expanded use of the breakdown lane. Hynes said the state needs to alleviate
Rte. 3 traffic ties-ups occurring year round, not just during the summer.
Noting that Governor Romney’s 20-year transportation plan includes
a proposal to widen Rte. 3, Hynes called on the governor to provide a
schedule for the work regardless of legislation.
