Stem
Cell Compromise Moves to the House
State House News Service
Headed for the
House floor when that branch meets next in a formal session
is the latest version of legislation to promote stem cell research in
Massachusetts. The Senate has already accepted a conference committee
report on the compromise bill. Once
it reaches Gov. Mitt Romney’s desk, he can sign it, veto it or return
it with proposed amendments making it more palatable to him. Romney and
lawmakers are at odds over what he defines as “radical cloning”
- the creation of embryos that will be used for research and destroyed,
and their contention that somatic cell nuclear transfer does not involve
fertilized eggs.
