"Nicole's Law"
Targets Carbon Monoxide Monitoring
In response to the January death
of 7-year-old Plymouth resident Nicole Garafolo, South Shore lawmakers
are filing a bill Tuesday regarding carbon monoxide detectors in homes
statewide. Sen. Therese Murray (D-Plymouth), and Reps. Vinny deMacedo
(R-Plymouth), and Thomas O'Brien (D-Kingston) will hold a press conference
with state and local fire officials to detail the legislation, being called
"Nicole's Law."
Garafolo died several days after
the January 22 blizzard from carbon monoxide poisoning. Fumes from a boiler
were reportedly trapped by a snow-blocked heating vent and seeped back
into the house, poisoning the family. The press conference will
be in the Senate Reading Room at 2 pm.
