For Liberals, Three Blacks Running for Office is Two too Many
It’s a race where issues like the death penalty and gay marriage differentiate the contenders.
However, State Senator Diane Wilkerson (D-Boston) has made it clear that she thinks two of the five Democrat candidates vying for Tom Finneran’s vacant seat ought to drop out because there already is a black candidate and apparently, the quota is filled for persons of that skin color.
Tuesday, she stated for the Boston Herald: “If the goal is winning, that has got to be something we talk about.”  Sen. Wilkerson is endorsing Linda Dorcena Forry, the most liberal of the three minority candidates.
The Dorchester district in question is comprised of 70% minority voters.  One might think that 60% of the candidates being black was an example of the fact that democracy works and society has come a long way.   However, according to Wilkerson, blacks ought to continue voting as a bloc, even when it is against their interests, and the liberal black candidate is the only way to go.
