Following
through on their promise to bring stem-cell research to Massachusetts, state
leaders are meeting with a national development group that announced their
interest in purchasing Weymouth Airbase for the future home of a complex
that includes bio-tech and pharmaceutical industry offices.
LNR Property
Corp. will schedule public meetings on their plans in the next two weeks
about developing the 1,400 acre area. Former House Speaker Finneran, who
was a staunch opponent of stem cell research until he was offered a job
paying $400,000 a year to lobby for it, has already contacted the management
group handling the development of the base.
LNR was recently
bought by the Cerberus Capital group, a multi-billion dollar investment
company that is well known for the money it spends on political campaign
donations on a national level.
