Distributes “Prayer” Message Throughout State House Today
The President of Massachusetts
Citizens for Marriage, Sally Pawlick, is distributing to legislators at
the State House today an informational article about the role that prayer
has played in the history of the state government in Massachusetts, titled
“Offering Prayers to God for Our Political Leaders
Is an American Custom.”
The article says:
“It has always been a custom for leaders of our country, including Thomas
Jefferson, the man who is quoted ad
nauseum as being in staunch opposition to efforts [to offer prayer
to God]. Jefferson appealed to all the colonies in 1774 that they pray
against King George’s Boston Port Act.
He did coin the phrase ‘wall of separation’ between church and
state, but he also urged everyone to pray that the government of the day
(in that case, the English monarchy) rescind its ruling concerning Boston. A direct result of Jefferson’s call to prayer in favor of Massachusetts
was the rallying of patriots for the founding of the First Continental
Congress in Philadelphia.”
The article continues:
“Today, there is also a vacuum
in the executive offices when it comes to moral, principled leadership
at every level of government. In
the absence of great men like Samuel Adams and Thomas Jefferson, we must
extend our efforts in their spirit to again call people to pray for our
government leaders, to give them wisdom and courage in these challenging
times.
“It is no coincidence that when people
do respond to a sincere call to pray, society ultimately changes for the
better. Jefferson’s declaration
for prayer directly led to the establishment of the First Continental
Congress. We expectantly believe that when people do respond, we will
likewise experience a renewal of righteousness in our society.
In
the afternoon, Pawlick will attend the first business session of the new
Legislature. This is her second visit to the State House
this week. On Monday, she distributed
an A.P. story from Iraq which stated that: “All 700 employees of the electoral
commission in Mosul resigned after being threatened.”
As
President of Massachusetts Citizens for Marriage, Pawlick sees the foremost
decision being the vote upon the Bill of Address filed by Rep. Emile Goguen
(D-Fitchburg) to remove the four judges at the Supreme Judicial Court
who illegally forced homosexual “marriage” upon the Commonwealth.
