Letter to the
Editor
(The following letter was written to the Springfield Republican
about a slanted article that appeared in their newspaper. They refused
to print this letter because it pointed out their bias)
In response to Bill Zajac’s December 7, 2005 article, “Anti-gay
marriage petition due today“. Mr. Zajac’s article was very
informative, except he left out some very important facts. First being,
that Senator Brian P. Lees of East Longmeadow was also part of the unconstitutional
legislative maneuver to adjourn the legislatures constitutional convention
in 2001. Mr. Lees is the one who second the motion to adjourn the legislature,
knowing that it was unconstitutional to do so; which in turn, denied
every citizen a vote on the issue. Second , the SJC told the acting
Governor ( not so swift) Jane Swift in its advisory opinion of December
20, 2002 that the state legislature violated the Constitution when it
refused to vote on the Protection of Marriage Amendment. This left the
citizens without any redress and without a Republican form of Government,
in violation of Article IV, section 4 of the U. S. Constitution. The
framers of article. 48 of the state Constitution provided for a robust
public debate allowing all citizens to thoroughly discuss and debate
the merits of every proposed Amendment. This was clearly denied us by
Thomas Birmingham and Brian P. Lees. Mr. Birmingham is gone. Mr. Lees
should be next. He broke the public trust, and took from us our voice
and our vote, and that is shameful and unforgivable.
Respectively,
Ronald J. Cutler
