Is Speaker Finneran Taking His Orders from Alan Solomont?
Most believe that Speaker Finneran is not comfortable with his role as the prime advocate of homosexual “marriage” in the state and is taking orders from those high in the Democratic National Party, which stridently favors homosexuality, but it has been unclear just who his boss is.
Under the rule of following the money, one man broke loose yesterday when the Boston Globe reported that Weston resident Alan Solomont, the former finance chairman at the DNC, is heading a group of Jewish supporters for John Kerry who, it reported, favors support of Israel and “social issues” in this country.
For some reason, the Jewish people have voted as a bloc for years, with 90% voting for the Democratic Party. But last election, George Bush won 19% of that support. Solomont is out to stop that from happening again.
Another person working with Solomont is a partner of Gov. Romney at Bain Capital, Jonathan Levine.
Involved in Scandal at WGBH which MassNews Took Nationwide
Solomont first surfaced in 2000, when he was involved in a scandal at WGBH, where he remains as a member of the Board. (Click here for referenced story) Although he continued to have strong connections with the DNC, was chief fundraiser for Gore in Massachusetts and had two fundraisers for Clinton at his Weston home in 1999, Solomont still determines policy for WGBH as a member of its governing board. His wife, Susan Lewis, was an employee there for 15 years, most recently as its chief fundraiser. He gave $422,000 to Democrats from 1997-1999.
The scandal occurred when it was discovered that the station was giving a list of its donors to the DNC when an alert mother noticed that a fundraising letter from the DNC was addressed to her toddler who had just contributed to WGBH. The scandal was only a back-page story which quickly died in the liberal media of this state until MassNews sent a copy of its newspaper throughout Washington DC. That got the attention of many and forced the resignation of the national President of PBS but Solomont remained at WGBH. The liberal media in Boston gave cover by ignoring the support of the Democratic Party and its ideology by WGBH and focusing only on whether the station had broken any law.
Homosexual Issues Appear to be Important
Solomont assumes that all Jews must vote for Democrats because of their race, according to the Globe.
“Solomont said in an interview with the Globe,” the paper wrote, “that he and the others want to counter the Bush strategy, crafted by White House chief political aide Karl Rove, that for several years has gained the president support among Jewish voters -- a usually solid Democratic constituency -- by offering a strongly pro-Israel policy.
“’George Bush has had three-and-a-half years to try to peel off Jewish voters,’ Solomont said. ‘Karl Rove has a clear strategy to pick off 5 to 10 percent of the Jewish vote from the Democrats in the battleground states.’ In 2000, Bush won only 19 percent of Jewish voters' support. ‘Rove and the Republicans continue to create the impression they have cut into the Democrats' support, and if that goes unanswered they could,’ Solomont said.”
Although Solomont says that social issues are important to Jewish voters, he doesn’t specify which ones, but the way his message is crafted, it appears that homosexual “marriage” is the most prominent and contentious “social” issue. He told the Globe that “the defense of Israel is only one issue of concern to the community and that Democrats offer other policies that they say provide more social and economic equity, traditionally a major focus of Jewish voters.”
He says that Kerry’s record is “perfect” on Israel even though last year he called the construction of a barrier between Israel the Palestinian territories a “barrier to peace.” He has changed his position since running for President.
One of the “key players,” according to the Globe, is Kerry’s brother, Cameron, who has converted to Judaism, and, like the candidate, is 1/4 Jewish. Other Leader of Group Was Head of Dean’s Campaign for Homosexuals
The other leader of the group, along with Solomont, was the chairman of the Howard Dean campaign which surged ahead at the outset because of large amounts of undisclosed money. He is Steve Grossman, former chairman of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.
Grossman is also very aware of “social issues,” which according to his backing of Gov. Dean obviously means homosexual “marriage.” He told the Globe: ''Bush offers very little on every important social issue.”
''This team, which knows John Kerry best,” Grossman said, “will fan out across the country and let people know what John has done for Israel and for the values that we care about."
The team, according to the Globe, are: state Senator Cynthia S. Creem of Newton; Ruth B. Balser of Newton; former state Representative James Segel of Brookline; former US Attorney Donald Stern; Boston lawyer Richard Glovsky, the former chairman of the New England region of the Anti-Defamation League; Boston lawyer Dennis Kanin; Bob Epstein, part owner of the Celtics and a longtime Kerry supporter; Boston City Councilor Michael Ross; former Rhode Island Lieutenant Governor Richard Licht; and venture capitalist Jonathan Lavine , partner of Bain Capital.
Michael Ross is the man who ranted and raved when his father, Stephan Ross, who lived for five years in concentration camps, told MassNews that 20% of the guards in the camps were homosexuals. (Click Here for referenced story)
