Will Catholic Church Finally Help Its Own Remove Homosexual Marriage?

    July 27, 2004

Will the Catholic Church finally help its own, Rep. Emile Goguen (D-Fitchburg), end homosexual marriage in Massachusetts or will it continue to follow the failed leadership of its retiring lobbyist, Gerry D’Avolio? His loyalty to Speaker Finneran, who attends Mass every morning, appears to cloud D’Avolio’s judgment.

Only a few days are left in the month and it is questionable whether the Church has the ability to do anything in that short a period before the session ends on July 31, but about 80% of the legislators say they are Catholic. Some members of the Church believe the laity should, at least, call the Chancery in Boston and request more leadership. There are thousands of Catholics working on this historic battle, and they wonder why the Church is so loyal to Speaker Finneran, who is obviously working very hard for something the Church opposes so fervently.
