Mr. Speaker: Never Underestimate the Power of a Woman, Especially Sally Pawlick

She Understands that It Was You “Behind the Curtain” in the Scandal of 2002

By Attorney J. Edward Pawlick

Mister Speaker: Before you were born, there was a famous advertisement, “Never underestimate the power of a woman.” It was known all over America, I was only a kid then, but I still remember it vividly.

It’s too bad you never benefited from its wisdom, because if you had, you wouldn’t have to learn it now as an adult.

My wife, Sally Pawlick, has admired you for years until it became patently obvious in the last few weeks that it was you “behind the curtain” during the scandal of 2002. As founder and President of Massachusetts Citizens for Marriage, she remembers vividly when the Legislature broke the law, violated the Constitution and refused to vote on her organization’s Protection of Marriage Amendment.

She was told by most conservatives, much more experienced in politics than she, that you were solidly on our side and there was nothing you could do to help  even though the House voted overwhelmingly on the wrong side of the issue. She was to be happy just because you voted the right way yourself.

As a matter of fact, most conservatives are still telling her that you are her friend. They caution that she should be extremely happy if she gets a smile and a pat on the head now and then. But those people don’t understand Sally.

Sally’s respect has turned to disgust very recently as she has learned how our legislature works. It has become readily apparent that you are breaking the Constitution again and not allowing our Reps to vote. This time it is Rep. Emile Goguen’s Resolution to remove four judges for corruption which is being targeted.

Mr. Speaker, there must be a vote this time. She understands that some of us have gone overseas and fought for that right to vote. We’ve seen our friends killed and wounded in World War II, Korea, Vietnam and Iraq for the precious right to vote. There are still loved ones dying in Iraq. Mr. Speaker, that right is very precious to her.

Don’t underestimate her or you will destroy the Democratic Party, both in Massachusetts and nationally. What could possibly be so important to cause you to violate the Constitution two sessions in a row, 2002 and 2004? Some Reps are concerned about the large amounts of cash seen in the hands of House members. What does that cash have to do with your determination to not allow a vote?

Let’s obey the law this year. Allow our Reps to vote.

Many citizens will be calling to encourage you to obey the law, so expect their calls at your office at 617-722-2500. We understand that your staff and your wife are already disturbed at the large volume of calls. You’d better tell them to be ready because it’s only the beginning until you obey the law.

Thanks for listening.
