Plymouth Tricked Into Fighting State Law Which Forbids Marriage to Out-of-Staters
The town of Plymouth is joining a lawsuit to challenge the state law which forbids marriage to out-of-state couples. The town agreed to be a plaintiff in the lawsuit after the Boston firm of Palmer & Dodge invited it to join the suit without charge, according to the Patriot Ledger, apparently saying that the town could be liable to homosexual couples if they rejected the request from out-of-staters.
Does anyone remember Palmer & Dodge? They’re the firm which harbors Neil P. Arkuss and George Ticknor, both of Concord, the lawyers who publicized phony, libelous charges in 2002 against Massachusetts Citizens for Marriage and Sally Pawlick about fraud involving Save Our Horses in the gathering of signatures for MCM’s petition. They’re also the ones who gave a home to Tom Birmingham after he was dismissed by the citizens from public life after serving as President of the Senate. He’s the one who led the Legislature in violating the state Constitution on July 17, 2002 and denied he did anything wrong until Margaret Marshall and a 7-0 SJC told him he did indeed violate the Constitution.
One must wonder what is motivating Palmer & Dodge in their newest, strange endeavor.
