Lawyers of Massachusetts: Shame on You! Is there any lawyer left in Massachusetts with integrity? It’s now obvious that our Chief Justices, Margaret H. Marshall of the Supreme Judicial Court and Suzanne V. DelVecchio of the Superior Court, assured Atty. Mary Bonauto in 1999 and 2000 that she would win the Goodridge case if it were filed in their Massachusetts courts. In addition, three Associate Justices on the SJC agreed to go along with the corruption. Yet, we hear not a peep from any lawyer in the state. Not one! The four rogue judges on the SJC have been charged in the General Court in a Bill of Address for Removal from office under Article 98 of the state Constitution. A vote should occur this week. Is homosexuality so important to lawyers that they will ignore the worst corruption that has ever surfaced in our history? Is Mary Bonauto so popular they will ignore her complicity? Is money so important to lawyers nowadays that they will do anything to avoid losing it? Will Lawyers Weekly ever revoke its historic, two-time “Lawyer of the Year” award to Bonauto? Is no lawyer bothered by this? Are even those who disagree with homosexual marriage afraid to speak out? Where are the intrepid lawyers of the past who had courage, such as the late, peripatetic liberal Harold Brown, who single-handedly fought the Bar Association when they tried to make all the lawyers join their organization? Even they would admit today that Harold did them a favor. Are there any lawyers left with a sense of integrity, or do they still believe it is necessary that they stay quiet if they are to survive Margaret Marshall?
