Bill of Address to Oust Judges Gets More Support
Friday May 21, 2004

The Bill of Address to remove the SJC judges who gave us homosexual “marriage” is getting more support according to the Article 8 Alliance.

“Every day more reps are ‘coming out’ (excuse the phrase) and publicly telling their constituents that they will vote for the bill of address when it gets to the floor. (I know we've been promising a full list. We're catching up; look for it this weekend.) Here are the facts as they stand now.

“The bill of address is sitting in the Rules Committee. This ‘committee’ actually almost never actually meets or holds hearings. (Members often joke that this is ‘the committee that never meets.’) Generally, the chairman, Angelo Scaccia, informally chats with the members and makes the ‘committee's’ decision on his own, from that. There's no reason that our bill of address shouldn't have sailed through in a day or so.

“But it's stalled. We're told that it's actually Rep. Salvatore DiMasi who's actually holding it up. Rep. DiMasi is a member of the rules committee, but he's also the House Majority Leader. He's apparently told Scaccia to keep it bottled up.

“DiMasi is textbook case of an unprincipled sellout. Brought up as a strong Catholic, he's seen his district – including parts of the North End, Beacon Hill, and the South End – attract more homosexuals. So he jumped on the gay marriage bandwagon, and he now is willing to keep the rest of Massachusetts and America a prisoner of activist judges and homosexual marriage, for the sake of politics. He really needs to hear from you.

“Scaccia is, frankly, not much better. Scaccia has actually told us that he will vote for the bill of address. His district – parts of Dorchester, Roslindale, and Hyde Park – is pretty solidly pro-family, not exactly ‘pro-gay.’ But Scaccia has decided he likes his chairmanship and doesn't want to risk that. So he's willing to follow DiMasi's orders. He won't return our phone calls, or anybody else's. We're also told that Scaccia thinks he's paid his dues, and is much too important to be bullied by ordinary people. Scaccia has obviously been in office much too long, and needs to be reminded who pays his salary, and who he needs to listen to.

“These two – DiMasi and Scaccia – could stand to get a few phone calls or even visits. Both have home offices, and can be reached there also. Are we willing to give up the fight because of them? I don't think so.

“The bill of address needs to get out of the Rules committee and be allowed to be voted on. Now, not later.

“Our Bill of Address, being a ‘late filed bill’ is being required to go through committees before getting to the floor. Did you notice that this other bill (to repeal the 1913 law) went right to the Senate – without going through any committees? That's because it was allowed to be filed as an amendment to the state budget, rather than a normal bill, in order to expedite it. That's right, an amendment to the state budget. And these public officials want to be taken seriously?”
