of Peterson Family Thanks the Massachusetts News for Reporting the
Truth About DSS - September 17, 2003
My name is Deanna (Peterson) Brigg, and I was one of the 6 children
taken out of the Peterson family in 1994.
Family
Is Destroyed by DSS: Six Children Seized
I came across this article in your archives when I was searching
for my brothers, Independent
Professionals Evaluate the Peterson Family Very Favorably
, and I wanted to thank you for printing this. It really made me
feel a little better to know that there was some truth out there.
I also wanted to comment on part of the story.
I was never filled in on exact charges, who said what, or anything
specific about the case. I was only told vague things like "sexual
abuse", "unfit parents", "devil worship".
In all the years this was going on my lawyer only talked to me twice,
maybe for about a half hour at a time. So, reading this article
actually brought some news to me.
[Editors Note: The lawyer was supplied by the state and obviously
a mere formality to pretend they were helping these children.]
Yes, my younger brothers did not speak well. The only ones in my
family who could consistantly understand Cory were my mother and
myself. So, a social worker who has never known him, being able
to understand him is laughable. If they were the ones DSS took seriously,
I can understand how they could twist their words so easily.
For example, they said that my parents fed us "raw dogs".
In retrospect, this makes me laugh, if bitterly. One of both Cory
and Tom's favorite things were unheated (to them called "raw")
hot dogs. My mom would give them each one out of the package before
they were boiled. If I remember correctly they called them "huc
dogs". So, when asked their favorite food, or what my parents
fed them, I'm sure "raw huc dogs" would have been said.
It's
disgusting how DSS will twist words for thier own agenda.
I've been considering suing the State of Massachusetts and DSS for
what they have done. However, I'm not sure if I've waited too long,
how to go about it, or if I could even begin to afford such a long
battle. Nor do I know if I have I chance. I doubt it.
Anyway, I just wanted to comment, and to thank you. If you ever
decide to ressurect the story, I am here, and I have contact with
both Tarri andTroy.
Thank you for your time.
