Editorial: We're grateful to the two Episcopalian bishops who made the absurd statement to the Boston Globe that the Catholic priests who molested children were not homosexuals. Their spokesman attempted to lift-himself-by-his-own-bootstraps by telling MassNews, "The primary message of our article was that pedophilia is not the same as homosexuality. In other words, our message was intended to clarify the difference between a disease [pedophilia] and sexual orientation. That is what matters most, that people not be stigmatized by prejudice." The spokesman also said, "There is no question that some homosexual men are attracted to young, underage men, and have sexual relations with them, just as there are some heterosexual men who have the same problem. Men who molest male children (under the age of ten, for example) are often heterosexual in their adult relationships, according to many studies." He then added: "To reject gays as priests is to confuse the issue." But this is absurd logic because the Episcopalian bishops assume that when God created sex, he did so for procreation and for homosexual "pleasure." But that is not true. God created many things for our benefit and enjoyment. If we look at food as an example, we see that God gave us food to nourish our bodies. He has also made it enjoyable to eat. Does that mean we should tickle our throats so we vomit and can eat again as the Romans did? When God invented procreation, he also made it enjoyable but he did not intend that men should use their procreation abilities on other malesparticularly young boys. It is reprehensible when a male takes advantage of females who are too young to consent, but it is much more understandable. There will always be gray areas in such matters because it is often a matter of opinion whether consensual sex with a particular female is ethical. This is often a matter of culture. It is never a question whether intercourse by a male with another male is ethical. It is never ethical. God never created procreation for that purpose. But the Bishops will bring us back to the "gay gene" argument and counter that God made homosexuals also. However, the "gay gene" argument died in 1999, even in the Boston Globe. No one believes that anymore. It's true that God made the people who are homosexuals, but he did not cause even one of them to be a homosexual. The Catholic priests who did these outrageous things to children were homosexuals by definition. They achieved their strange "pleasure" only at the expense of young males, not young females. (Apparently, about 5% of the priests in the Massachusetts diocese were molesters.) Does this mean that all homosexuals are pedophiles? Of course not. But the studies show that they are 10 times more likely to be pedophiles than heterosexual males. (They commit 30% of the pedophilia even though they are only 3% of the population.) There is no reason why a homosexual, whether a pedophile or not, should ever be allowed to be a priest. He has abused God's gift by choosing this foolish lifestyle and should not be leading others in their devotion to God. The spokesman for the bishops says that we should not "make judgments about people as a group as potential criminals based on their personal characteristics or preferences when the evidence to support such judgments is not there. That would be wrong." But who is judging these men as "potential criminals"? That is an absurd statement. These men are being judged on their ability to be spiritual leaders. In that test, anyone who practices the homosexual lifestyle immediately fails without question.
