Re: Your Statements About Civil Unions
Dear Governor Romney:
I am sorry to see that you apparently still do not
understand how it was that you were elected to your present position.
It occurred only because Massachusetts Citizens
for Marriage hammered Senator Birmingham so hard that he failed
in his primary race. The Senator publicly acknowledged that many
times. You were able to defeat the Democratic candidate, Shannon
O'Brien, only because she flip-flopped on the gay marriage/domestic
partnership issue. You never realized how important this issue is
to the people of Massachusetts even though your wife, son and daughter-in-law
were publicly embarrassed when you criticized them for signing the
Protection of Marriage Amendment.
The people of Massachusetts have not gone down this
long hard road in order to become a clone of Vermont. Most of them
realize, as do gay marriage advocates, that domestic partnerships
and civil unions are seen only as a steppingstone, by everyone,
to gay marriage.
We respectfully ask that you seriously reconsider
your position.
Sincerely,
Sarah McVay Pawlick,
President
