Michael Cloud and Carla Howell sent this email message to theirs friends after the election.

Dear Friends,

Some Republican pundits claim that the 45.4% vote for Carla Howell's Ballot Question 1 sent a clear "message" to the Massachusetts state legislature and Governor-Elect Mitt Romney.

Michael Cloud addresses supporters on the campaign trail during his recent campaign against Senator John Kerry for the U.S. Senate.

These Republican wags contend that Massachusetts voters are instructing the legislature and the governor to "hold the line" or "slow down tax increases."

They are wrong. They still don't get it.

Our 45.4% vote to End the Income Tax in Massachusetts is NOT a "message." It's NOT a "signal." It's NOT a "warning."

It's an Ultimatum: "Get rid of today's Big Government—or we'll get rid of you."

Carla Howell discusses Second Amendment rights with patrons of Blue Northern Trading Co. in Ayer.

We will not be silenced. We will not be ignored. We will not be pushed aside.

Get it or get out.

Small government is possible,

Carla Howell

In Massachusetts, liberal Massachusetts, 46% of the voters wanted to abolish the income tax."

Small Business Survival Committee wrote in the 11/14/02 issue of "Weekly Briefing": "A proposal to end the state's income tax received an impressive 45% of the vote."

Knight Ridder/Tribune News Service wrote this on November 9th: "Although a proposal to repeal Massachusetts' state income tax fell short, by 55-45 ratio, political observers say the relatively close margin on behalf of such a sweeping tax reduction in a liberal state sent a clear message to lawmakers who may be pondering tax hikes to close budget deficits first."
