Bay Windows Editorial of Aug. 19 Is Back on Website

October 29, 2002

The Bay Windows Editorial of Aug. 19 is back on their website.

It had been removed because it was embarrassing to the newspaper, but when MassNews mailed a quarter-million copies across the state this month and said that the Editorial had been removed, apparently the spotlight became too intense. So now it is back.

This will allow readers of MassNews to verify that everything that was said in its November "Special" about the Editorial was accurate.

"We understand how they feel," says J. Edward Pawlick, Publisher of MassNews. "This certainly has been an up-and-down roller coaster with the Protection of Marriage Amendment for both of us. They are as passionate about their point-of-view as we are. They produce an excellent newspaper. If they would just recognize reality and change their focus and agree that homosexual people just need to be treated like everyone else, we could move on.

"But when they compare this with the Civil Rights struggle of blacks, they are not going to be able to provide real leadership. They should publicly recognize that homosexuals do indeed have a huge problem with the molestation of children. What is happening in the Catholic Church, in the North American Man/Boy Love Association, at Fistgate and everywhere is the normal, unfortunate course of many homosexuals - the molestation of young boys.

"Our concern is that if they continue to deny it and don't help to correct the terrible problem of what many are doing to teenagers (and younger), they will see a real backlash from the nuts who would physically attack them. They must get onto a solid base of reality which they do not have now. Both the homosexuals and society are looking for leadership from them."

Holyoke Police Chief Presses Onward

October 25, 2002

Holyoke Police Chief Anthony R. Scott is inviting all citizens to attend a press conference on Tuesday, October 29, at 6:25 p.m. where he will unveil his Constitutional initiative to make all Massachusetts judges accountable to the people. The conference will be held at City Hall Auditorium, 536 Dwight St, Holyoke.

Teamsters Union Taking Over Election Signs?

October 25, 2002

A corner in Shirley, at the intersection of Townsend Road and route 225, is a busy crossroad for commuters heading to route 2. Several thousand vehicles pass this intersection daily.

Week by week the clusters on either side of the road have grown. They peaked just before the primary election and then dropped off again. Since then the cluster has been growing steadily. In a strangely civilized twist, the Democrats staked out the western corner and the Republicans the eastern corner. Eldridge and Cahill were facing off against Finneman and Grabauskas in this, the Thirty-seventh Middlesex District.

It was noted that not all of the Rappaport signs were replaced with Romney signs after the primary, and no O'Brien signs were seen at this location.

As of yesterday morning, it was a new ballgame. There in the midst of the Eldridge and Cahill signs was the O'Brien/Gabrielli sign.and all of the Republican signs were trashed. Looks like the teamsters are back on the job.

Berkshire Fathers Have All Three Candidates Supporting Shared Parenting

October 23, 2002

All three candidates for the Berkshire County Fourth District have agreed to support shared parenting. They are Democrat Smitty Pignatelli, Republican Chris Irsfeld, and an Independent Candidate.

"This did not happen overnight," said Atty. Rinaldo Del Gallo of the Berkshire Fatherhood Coalition. "Last debate, none would take a position. This took information packets and tons of phone calls. It took persistence. I think that this shows that with a small but persistent group, we can make a difference by creating public awareness."

Shannon O'Brien Would Deny Citizens their Constitutional Right to Vote on Marriage Amendment

O'Brien, Carla Howell and Jill Stein Favor Gay Marriage; Romney Opposes It

October 23, 2002

Shannon O'Brien says the Protection of Marriage Amendment should not be put to a vote of the citizens -- even though the state Constitution requires it and both Atty. General Tom Reilly and the Supreme Judicial Court have ruled that it is a proper measure for the voters to decide.

All three of her opponents disagree with her. She is the only one that does not believe the state Constitution must be obeyed, according to a survey taken by Bay Windows.

Mitt Romney: "The people have a constitutional right to put questions before the voters. . I don't believe in stifling democracy. I believe the Legislature should have had an up or down vote on the merits after listening to arguments on both sides of the issue."

Carla Howell: "Every time we allow the legislature to violate the Constitution, we decimate the rule of law and endanger all our civil liberties."

Jill Stein: "While I agree with the end result, I am troubled by the manner in which the legislators violated due process and the rights of citizens, misguided as those citizens might be."

Mitt Romney Is Losing Voters in his Conservative Base Because He Doesn't Know What the Marriage Amendment Would Do, Says Sponsor of Measure

October 23, 2002

Mitt Romney is losing voters in his conservative base because he doesn't know what the Marriage Amendment would do, says the sponsor of the Amendment, Sarah McVay Pawlick, President of Mass. Citizens for Marriage.

"It's sad to see him talking against the Amendment which is supported by over 60% of the people, including his wife, son and daughter-in-law, when it would accomplish exactly what he says he wants.

"When this Amendment comes before any court in the Commonwealth, they will look to the intent of the original framers, which is us, Mass. Citizens for Marriage.

"He says he is opposed to the Marriage Amendment because 'it would outlaw domestic partner benefits.' But this is not true, nor is it the intent of the framers.

"Under the Amendment, Romney would get what he wants. The Amendment would outlaw gay marriage and civil unions as he desires, but private companies could pay any type of benefit to anyone they wish.

"The Amendment would affect only state and municipal employees. They would be allowed domestic partnership benefits for the protection of gay employees and their children on a subject-by-subject approach if the Legislature so decides. Of course, this must be passed in the Legislature. Therefore, nothing will pass if the people do not desire it. These benefits will not be stopped by the Amendment, but only by the desires of the people, as evidenced in the Legislature.

"Even Romney is not sure whether these benefits could or should pass the Legislature now. He says he needs to 'study the costs and regulations associated with it in light of the state's fiscal crisis.'

"It's discouraging that we cannot get a real discussion going on the Amendment, only sound bites. It's obvious we need to have the matter passed on to the people so that we can have more time to explore all these questions."

Ray Flynn Wonders if Globe Forced Shannon O'Brien to Embrace Gay Marriage

October 17, 2002

Ray Flynn wondered on his talk show yesterday whether the Boston Globe forced Shannon O'Brien to make her stupid statement about gay marriage in order to keep the endorsement of the powerful newspaper.

He made the statement after the publisher of MassNews said, as a guest on the show, that the only reason he could give for her statement was that she was among friends at the time and just blurted out what she really felt even though she had reporters and cameras all around her.

But Flynn responded with his observation about the Globe, which certainly made sense to many in that both the Globe and its owner, the NY Times have been working for many years to bring about gay marriage and both of them used nasty, dirty tricks against the Marriage Amendment this year.

MassNews publisher, J. Edward Pawlick, recently pointed out in a Special Edition which was mailed to a quarter-million activists across the state last Monday, how the Globe and Times apparently coerced Birmingham into illegally shutting down a vote on the Amendment on July 17. They advocated in their news columns that he should break the law. When he hesitated, they apparently shifted their support.

Therefore, it would make sense that they are putting the same pressure on O'Brien as a price she must pay in order to become Governor.

As the former mayor of Boston and Ambassador to the Vatican, Flynn has been around politics in the state for a long time and is respected as a knowledgeable person.

The Globe reported yesterday that all three of the other candidates -- Green Party candidate Jill Stein, independent Barbara Johnson and Libertarian Carla Howell -- support gay marriage.

Boston Globe Says Marriage Is Good for Women?!?

October 15, 2002

Marriage is good for both women and men, the Boston Globe said in an article on the front page of Saturday's paper under a headline, "For women, a sunnier view of marriage."

It reported that a negative view of marriage by a feminist sociologist in 1972, Jessie Bernard, has been "thoroughly debunked," according to scholars.

Bernard was the "preeminent scholar of the women's movement," according to the Globe.

However, her ideas "so permeated the public discussion of marriage that no amount of new research can dislodge them," say the scholars. "You wait for the generation to turn," said one.

Observers said that the appearance of this story in the feminist Boston Globe on page one was astounding but particularly so when the Protection of Marriage Amendment is being debated across the state as a way of retaining marriage as the cornerstone of our society.

Audubon Society and Others Finally Worry About Sprawl

October 15, 2002

It took the EPA to finally awaken our "environmentalists" to the dangers of sprawl. But the Globe reports this has finally happened. The Audubon Society was concerned only about foreign policy during much of the 1980s, worrying about Ronald Reagan and atomic bombs, under the flawed international leadership of its President Jerome Bertrand, who used the power of the organization for his own personal political beliefs. He was president for 18 years, is still a leader and is also on the Board of Directors of the National Audubon.

Meanwhile our own state was becoming an environmental mess. Then, when it pranced after the Sierra Club and worried about problems in Alaska, the Audubon still didn't notice the terrible problem of sprawl in our own state.

It was totally surprised by the EPA's complaint two years ago and has taken this long to react.

MassNews was the first to complain about the anti-snob zoning laws and the terrible effect it is having in a front page story, "We Worry About Alaska's Environment, But Not Ours," in February 2001. We told about the small town of Grafton as it attempted to save its environment from this state law. The Globe responded to our story by defending the law. Despite the Globe's efforts, Sen. Birmingham reported at the end of the year that, "I have heard more complaints about 40-B in the last year than in my last nine years in office."

Now the Globe and its friends are trying to turn this into a big government victory by saying that we need to solve the problem by bypassing the towns and looking to regional solutions - i.e. more solutions from Beacon Hill. It says this will "test the next governor."

Wonder Whether the Globe Wants Socialism? Look at This

October 15, 2002

Socialism is what comes from "peaceable" people while our free enterprise system comes from those who are "selfish and aggressive," according to an article by an MIT psychologist in Sunday's Globe of Oct. 13.

The exact quote is: "Are people inherently selfish and aggressive, which would justify a market economy and a strong police, or could they become peaceable and cooperative, allowing the state to wither and a spontaneous socialism to blossom?"

This was right at the top of an article which dominated the "Ideas" section. It was by MIT psychologist Steven Pinkcer about whether heredity or the environment is more important in shaping a person's character.

We've all heard that the end of the Iron Curtain ended the love affair with socialism except in American universities. This article indicates the truth of that statement. But the well known statement must also include the Globe and its owner, the NY Times.

Who Gave Jimmy Carter a Peace Prize?

October 15, 2002

Jimmy Carter's winning of a Peace Prize makes one wonder until you read who the other American Presidents are who have also received it: Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson.

Woodrow Wilson?!?

That's the man who led country and the world during World War I and started the century on a killing spree which left hundreds of millions dead from many wars. He didn't start WWI but he was the first President to draft American teenage boys into a foreign war which had been going on for centuries. His "war to end wars" was a disaster for America and the world. It tipped the balance so much for England and its allies that an unconditional surrender of Germany and its allies was demanded.

So who gave Jimmy the award? The estate of a Norwegian who made so much money making dynamite that he attempted to repent by establishing the Nobel Peace Prize. Jimmy's done some good work by building houses across the world but his attempt to bolster the totalitarian socialist dictatorship in Cuba has to make one wonder how anyone thinks he is building peace for those poor people. And who were the people on this rich Norwegian organization who made this foolish decision?

Shrew Alert

October 7, 2002

The new president of Regis College, Mary Jane England, was quoted and praised yesterday by Eileen McNamara for intimating that all women are for "protecting others," while all men are batterers.

Here's the quote.

"Abuse is endemic in our society, especially the abuse of women and children, but when it showed up in the church it unleashed a fury, especially among mothers and grandmothers, whose lives are so much about protecting others."

So there you have it. Men "batter" and women "protect."

England is a child psychiatrist who was fired as the first head of DSS by Michael Dukakis because, says McNamara, "of a public perception that the agency was not doing enough to help prosecute those who preyed on children."

McNamara met her because England held a symposium at Regis last week for conflicting views about the church today, "especially about the role of women." She told McNamara, "We are not going to go away. The laity will not be ignored." Sounds like another failed shrew trying to take over, just McNamara's type of person.

McNamara says that England "remained well respected" despite the scandal at DSS. But who made that decision about England's reputation, Eileen? Was it you?

England was responsible for convincing the Legislature to have mandatory reporting by doctors, teachers, nurses, etc. for anything that might be child abuse. This terrible policy has resulted in taking these decisions out of the hands of those experienced, mature professionals and in a torrent of paper going to DSS every day. It is unable to cope with the flow. As a result the agency has become much too large for anyone to handle. When DSS tries to make sense out of the resulting chaos, they send an unqualified 22-year-old to make vital decisions about the lives of the unfortunate who got caught in the web.

England says that Cardinal Law is "dead wrong to claim that society had not begun to confront the criminal nature of child abuse when he became archbishop of Boston in 1985."

But England and the Boston Globe haven't confronted the issue to this day. They still think it happens only in the Catholic Church and not in the schools, Boy Scouts, YMCAs or wherever sick men can find their next victim. We have reported many times how the American Psychiatric Association and the American Psychological Association are floating the idea that sex between men and boys can be a positive experience for the boy. (It's all on our website under Archives.)

This is a very serious Shrew Alert for the laity in the Catholic Church because England serves on the Cardinal's Commission for the Protection of Children.

Eileen McNamara: Focus of First 'Shrew Alert'

October 4, 2002

Eileen McNamara is the first focus of "A Shrew Alert" for a column she wrote last Sunday about "Romney's gender trap." She chewed him out for being a bigot. She ended by telling him to have a chat with Bill Weld, who lost to John Kerry "because he thought women would be so wowed by his charm they'd overlook his indifference to public education, the environment, and the poor."

What?!?

These are only women's issues? Only women are interested in public education? Only women are interested in the environment and the poor?
Eileen, it is extreme bigotry to believe that, but you do.

And you obviously believe that all women believe as you do. But they don't, Eileen. The days of extreme feminists like you who dislike everything about men are fading quickly and it's because of columns like this that it is happening.

Should Yvonne Abraham be Focus of a 'Shrew Alert?'

October 4, 2002

When Yvonne Abraham wrote about Jane Swift last Sunday, she quoted an obscure 33-year-old woman lawyer from Philadelphia who attacked all men. One must assume that Abraham included the quote because she liked it.

The lawyer said, "Because of her dilemma of being in office and having children, women know of her [Swift]. I am inspired about what she's done: being in such high office in more than a man's world and them not understanding what she's going through."

But they do understand, Yvonne! And so does Jane Swift. It's the lawyer and Yvonne Abraham who don't get it. When someone wants to raise children, this is a very important, time-consuming job. When Jane Swift became Governor, she was concerned because it left very little time to care for her children. Everyone knows many highly-paid professional women who have left when the babies came. Abraham says in the article that Swift decided not to run again "in part because of her children." The lawyer said, "Having children is part of her life, and it was not accepted."

If it wasn't accepted, it wasn't men who didn't do so. It was Jane Swift and the Boston Globe who made that decision. Because of the Globe, Swift has had to drive three hours each way in a state car with a state police driver and bodyguard. That's six hours a day of state policemen. That's stupid. Why don't we send her in a state helicopter? It would be much easier for Jane and cheaper for us.

Abraham put it this way, "Her motherhood was transformed from a blessing to a political curse over baby-sitting stories and her use of a State Police helicopter to rush home to be with her daughter." But who kept publicizing that story over and over and still does? The Boston Globe. Why does the Globe do that? What is wrong with her taking a helicopter?

The story of Jane Swift is not the fault of men and their not "understanding." It's a fact of life. Most women want to care for their children. It's too bad that Yvonne doesn't get it.

Her children are lucky that Jane Swift does.
