WELCOME TO DON FEDER'S COLD STEEL CAUCUS REPORT WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT ? For 19 years, I was a Boston Herald writer and syndicated columnist. I took a sabbatical from column writing on July 1, 2002. Since then, thousands of devoted fans have asked me how they can continue to get my commentary on political trends. Right here. I'll be making regular installments (weekly or more often) on this website, including my reaction to national and world events, commentary and analysis. If you're familiar with my columns, you can expect the same no-holds-barred, take-no-prisoners, full-speed-ahead-and-damn-the-torpedoes attitude here. From time to time, I'll republish the best of my previous writing and speeches. I'll also use this space to comment on and recommend books and movies. Much of our culture beggars the expression "wasteland." However, on occasion, a film comes along which merits consideration. I'll be sure to let you know about these roses in a dung heap. I'll also call to your attention books that provide much-needed information and critical analysis of the crisis of our times. You'll also have an e-mail address where you can reach me. I'll try to respond to inquiries, as time allows. With the writer's permission, I may even publish those that are instructive. WHY THE COLD STEEL CAUCUS REPORT? During the Battle of Gettysburg, when Pickett's famous charge reached the top of Cemetery Ridge, his men were out of ammunition. The general told his troops, "OK, boys, give 'em the cold steel" - use your bayonets - or so the story goes. These are desperate times, my friends - times when marginal-tax-rate conservatives, compassionate conservatives, lukewarm conservatives and conservatives who want to be loved just won't cut it. These are times that call for an unwavering adherence to principle, an acceptance of the axiom that right is right (even if no one else is right) and wrong is wrong (even if everyone else is wrong), a faith in our nation, our families and our God, and a willingness to fight to the end for lost causes -- for, as Jimmy Stewart says in "Mister Smith Goes to Washington": "Lost causes are the only ones worth fighting for." The Cold Steel Caucus Report is not for the faint-hearted. It's not for summer soldiers and sunshine patriots. It's not for "conservatives" who want to be respectable in the eyes of the establishment. It's not for those who've uncritically absorbed and mindlessly mouth the underlying premises of the cultural revolution. It is for conservatives who believe ideas have consequences. It's for conservatives who believe in virtue. It's for conservatives who aren't afraid of the word "reactionary." It's for conservatives who believe that any conservatism worthy of the name must be God-centered. It's for conservatives who believe this once was the greatest nation on earth (and could be again) and aren't afraid to say so at a meeting of multicultural "educators." It's for conservatives who believe in the old heroes - Washington, John Adams, Andy Jackson, Abe Lincoln, Robert E. Lee, Teddy Roosevelt and Winston Churchill. It's for conservatives who believe that all of our great days aren't behind us, and that God will raise up mighty men to lead us again. It's for conservatives who believe that over the past four decades, liberals have created a sewer society in what was once a God-fearing nation. It's for conservatives who understand the profound truth of Rabbi Mayer Schiller's pronouncement that "liberalism isn't a political philosophy. It's a vile combination of sickness and evil." If you are such a conservative - if you're ready to give 'em the cold steel - prepare to be inducted into the new Grand Army of the Republic -- and welcome to the counter-revolution. Seriously.
